Role Overview

The Senior Revenue Accountant will oversee revenue recognition, accounts receivable management, and financial reporting. This role ensures compliance with US GAAP (ASC 606), supports financial audits, and develops processes to enhance financial accuracy. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and experience in SaaS or subscription-based business models.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret customer contracts and sales agreements to ensure accurate billing and revenue recognition per ASC 606.
  • Manage and oversee revenue recognition in accordance with US GAAP standards.
  • Identify performance obligations, transaction prices, and contract costs in agreements.
  • Analyze variable considerations, including discounts, rebates, or penalties, and assess their impact on revenue recognition.
  • Track and manage deferred revenue to ensure proper allocation over contract terms.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed revenue schedules, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • Develop financial reports and provide insights on revenue trends.
  • Serve as a backup for commission calculations and ensure accurate processing.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Work closely with the finance team to analyze accounts receivable, track overdue payments, and establish reserves.
  • Assist in the month-end, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize revenue processes and enhance reporting capabilities.
  • Contribute to process improvements and automation efforts within the finance department.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting and finance experience, preferably in SaaS or a subscription-based business.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, particularly NetSuite and Stripe.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, including financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Experience in a fast-paced startup environment is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate financial concepts effectively.
  • A proactive mindset with attention to detail and a passion for process improvement.
  • Experience working in a Mac-based environment is a plus.
