Job Description
This position is an opportunity to join our Global Controllership team. Thoughtworks is seeking an European Accounting Manager to partner in overseeing the Europe region. This role will be responsible for driving immediate impact with the monthly financial close process, technical accounting matters and rolling out internal controls. A successful applicant will be ACA or ACCA Qualified with relevant accounting experience and will be expected to proactively identify risks and opportunities from an accounting point of view and work cross-functionally with members of the country and global finance teams to implement solutions. Additionally, the candidate will have experience with USGAAP and IFRS.
This position will be based in London, England and report to the Europe Controller, assisting in overseeing the Europe Controllership Team. Additionally, this role will work closely with the Europe Financial Planning & Analysis team and collaborate with our shared service teams in Brazil, China and India.
Job responsibilities
- Advise and lead research on complex technical accounting issues with an emphasis on revenue recognition
- Partner with the Europe Controllership and Financial Planning & Analysis team on the management of month-end close to review work completed by the teams working to tight deadlines. Activities include but are not limited to: balance sheet reconciliation overview and flux analysis, regional income statement review, and review of variance analysis of actual results to forecast & plan.
- Provide financial accounting input and overview for quarterly forecasting.
- Cultivate relationships and expand networks with external consultants, facilitating effective coordination of their services to ensure alignment of the local statutory financials in our diverse European countries with their respective local standards.
- Oversee the timelines for all local statutory filings for all European entities.
- Lead the local statutory audits, including ensuring audit readiness and timely responses to audit requests and preparation of draft financial statements.
- Assist the Global Controllership team with the development and implementation of robust internal controls working with the local finance and change management teams to action business changes as necessary with a particular emphasis on revenue controls.Own key SOX controls around financial reporting.
- Collaborate with the Global Controllership team to create, implement and maintain accounting principles, practices and procedures that will ensure accurate and timely financial statements and audit(s).
- Review transfer pricing calculations and manage intercompany payables and receivables.
- Monitor overdue receivables and days-sales-outstanding to ensure proper accounting and provide support and local accounting advice to the India Shared Services Team.
Job qualifications
Technical Skills
- ACA or ACCA Qualified
- 7+ years of accounting experience with a strong financial control background
- Working knowledge of US GAAP ASC 606 Revenue Recognition and ASC 842 Lease Accounting
- Experience working in and/or auditing US GAAP companies
- Internal control knowledge and ability to identify fraud risk factors in the business
- Public company or SOX 404 compliance experience
Professional Skills
- Knowledge of equity reporting and tax an advantage
- Bonus: familiar with PeopleSoft Financials and Certinia (formerly known as FinancialForce )
