About the Team
The 8th Note Press team aims to empower authors and bring great books to a worldwide audience. We use not only our data strength but also our promotional advantages to help writers find their target readers and make their books viral both online and offline.
The Business Development team identifies content with sales potential and works with internal and external partners to broker publishing and distribution agreements.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Help drive the growth of our new book publishing business with an innovative, entrepreneurial approach
- Develop and implement content acquisition strategy in collaboration with cross-functional teams, directly owning acquisition goals with visibility throughout 8th Note Press and our larger organization
- Identify and negotiate with rights holders to acquire licenses for great books along priority genres with high sales potential
- Develop and maintain business relationships with external partners such as authors, agents, and publishers
- Review and negotiate legal agreements to ensure they meet corporate guidelines and business goals
- Measure, analyze, and report on content acquisition efforts to innovate and improve systems, providing insights to cross-functional teams
- Collaborate with both internal and external teams to ensure that all content is optimized for distribution
- Represent 8th Note Press within the publishing industry to broker deals and develop new business
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in business development, content acquisition, or distribution role at US book publishing house or comparable consumer-facing content business
- Exceptional abilities in negotiation and business affairs
- Passion for the business of commercial storytelling with an awareness of industry trends and top charts
- Self-starter who can foster new partner relationships to negotiate business terms and legal agreements
- Understanding of industry standard formats and technical specifications for digital content

- Strong organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills with global team
- Capable of independently tackling and organizing challenges, projects, and team inquiries, bringing clarity and structure to ambiguous situations
