General Summary

The CEO is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the organization by working with the Board of Directors and the executive management team to establish and execute long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies, and to ensure the fiscal soundness of the organization.

Essential Job Functions

General Responsibilities

  • Oversees the development and execution of short and long-range plans and goals for all facility programs, funding, management, and operations.
  • Abide by a strict code of confidentiality and integrity in all matters related to the position.
  • Represent the agency at community meetings, workshops and training seminars as required.
  • As an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors, facilitates the scheduling of Board meetings and works with the Board Executive Committee to prepare and distribute the agenda and required materials in advance of all regular Board meetings. Ensures there is ample meeting space for Board meetings, including technology for remote meeting participation as needed, and supplies Directors with any and all information for the execution of their duties.

Community & Government Affairs

  • Maintains awareness of the changing needs of the Southwest Syracuse community, and oversees modification of facility programming to address those needs.
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with government, funders, and all stakeholders, and serves as a community advocate in representing community needs and interests in local government planning.
  • Builds mutually supportive relationships with other local community / social service agencies.
  • Serves as primary spokesperson and public relations officer for SMNF.

Financial Management & Fund Development

  • Oversees all fiscal activities for the Facility, and represents the Facility for all contracts and other legally binding agreements, financial transactions, and required reporting to all funding agencies.
  • Responsible for evaluating, designing, and executing fund development strategies with the goal of diversifying the agency’s funding sources and sustaining or growing agency programs to meet community needs.
  • Maintains strong relationships with existing institutional funders (grantors), and works closely with the CFO and Program Directors to ensure all funding and reporting requirements are met in order to maintain or grow grant funding.
  • Identifies and applies for new government and philanthropic grants as needed to strengthen programming, and maintains a database summarizing grant development activities.
  • Designs and executes major donor and community giving campaigns and events, in close coordination with the Board Strategic Planning and Fund Development Committee.
  • Produces regular reports for the Board of Directors about the status and performance of fundraising efforts.”

Facilities Management

  • Oversees the management and utilization of facilities and equipment, ensuring their highest and best use to meet community needs and program requirements. This includes developing and executing strategies to mitigate facilities or equipment costs, including but not limited to leasing space to other community organizations for events and programs.
  • Develops and maintains open communication with all Southwest Community Center tenants / sub-lessees.

Staff Development & Human Capital Management

  • Authorizes the hiring, direction, management, and termination of all staff employed by Syracuse Model Neighborhood Facility, Inc.
  • Ensures that all managers and staff have the appropriate knowledge, skills, and ongoing training to effectively perform their job duties.
  • Conducts monthly full staff meetings, and meets with administrative staff regularly to discuss policies, procedures and planning for the entire facility.
  • Works with human resources and other department directors to implement an annual performance management process for all staff.
  • Ensures all volunteers meet background checks and other agency and funder requirements (if any) to support those served by agency programs.
  • Works to maintain a safe, secure and orderly environment. Treats all employees, volunteers, and stakeholders with dignity and respect at all times.
