Role Overview

The Managing Director will own the company’s commercial and operational performance, driving profitable growth, delivery excellence, and the people culture that keeps the best project talent in the business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own company P&L, margin, and cash targets, reporting to the board quarterly.
• Lead the bid strategy, securing work that fits capability, capacity, and risk appetite.
• Oversee delivery of live projects on time, on budget, and to safety and quality standards.
• Drive pre-construction, design management, and procurement discipline across the portfolio.
• Develop frameworks, partnerships, and repeat business with key clients.
• Embed digital tools across planning, cost control, and site management.
• Grow the senior project leadership bench and improve retention of site talent.
• Manage relationships with funders, insurers, regulators, and supply chain partners.

Requirements:

• 15+ years in main contracting or engineering construction, with 5+ as Managing Director, operations director, or equivalent.
• A track record of profitable order-book growth and on-scheme delivery in the UK market.
• Strong commercial grounding: contracts, procurement, claims, and cash control.
• Experience leading businesses of 200-500 staff through growth and change.
• Chartered status preferred; degree in construction or engineering.
• Working knowledge of London and South East market dynamics.
• Clear leadership communication with clients, boards, and site teams alike.
